Marty Balin – Nashville Sessions (2008)

Nashville Sessions, the title of a self-released Marty Balin album suggests that the veteran rock singer who founded Jefferson Airplane and was a member of Jefferson Starship has gone country. That turns out to be only about half true, however. Certainly, the arrangements and instrumentation on the album differ from those on most albums featuring Balin. For the most part, however, Nashville Sessions is more the lighter side of Balin than the country side. With his distinctively elastic tenor, Balin has always had an affinity for love ballads, and here he indulges that ability.

Better Generation is the third solo album released by Marty Balin. The album was produced shortly after Jefferson Airplane’s reunion album and tour, without any other members of Jefferson Airplane involved. Balin’s wife, Karen Deal, co-wrote a song (Skydiver) on the album, and played keyboards on most tracks.

The Christmas album was the first album release from Patty Smyth in 23 years. In 2015, to promote the release of the album, Patty Smyth crowd-funded a campaign to support the Headstrong Project with all the money raised on the pre-orders of her album going to the non-profit. The album featured the single “Broken”, and the music video for the single was released just before Veterans Day, and was filmed on the grounds of a Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter. The album was released on November 20, 2015 as a CD-R through Amazon (manufactured on demand when ordered).

Hang On to Your Resistance is the debut album for Canadian musician Tom Cochrane, originally released in 1974 on Daffodil Records. The album was released under just his last name, Cochrane. In 1987, Capitol Records re-released the album under Tom Cochrane but changed the title slightly to Hang On to Your Resistance (The Early Years).

Big Wha-Koo were a Los Angeles, California-based soft rock ensemble formed in 1975 under the leadership of singer, songwriter and guitarist Danny Douma. Douma assembled an entourage of veteran musicians that included David Palmer, who had sung lead vocals on two tracks of Steely Dan’s debut album Can’t Buy a Thrill, Nick Van Maarth, from Buddy Holly’s backup band, The Crickets, Don Francisco, formerly of Crowfoot and Atlee and British blues man Andy Silvester, formerly of Savoy Brown.
