Finnish hard rock band Devil I Know has now released its self-titled debut album
he band name in combination with the artwork might cause some confusion; the presented music is not quite as sleazy, heavy or dark as the first impression suggests. Maybe the band wants to sound slightly more in that direction, reading their references Avenged Sevenfold and Black Label Society. Personally I can hardly see any links to aforementioned bands; this is just very well performed eighties melodic hard rock with a bite. Sure, in a few arrangements they have added some instrumental bridges and riffs which might be recognized as sleazy (nu-)metal, but both production and vocals stay away from a chilly sound and screaming. Devil I Know will not be able to cause an worldwide resurrection of the melodic hard rock from the eighties with this album, but with a leading role for the appealing vocals of Matias Melleri, this could be a harbinger for more good music to come.
