A delightfully sleazy low-fi trio of numbers is displayed on the self-titled debut EP from Chicago’s Stone Cold Outlaw.
The band’s been gradually building up a profile and have been picked up as openers by the likes of Tracii Guns’ League of Gentlemen as well as appearing at the Rock ‘N’ The Valley Festival alongside Warrant and Skid Row. They were also featured at Chicago’s Rocklahoma launch party at The Double Door, co-headlining with fellow ‘Windy City’ rockers Hessler.
“Excess” slices this EP wide open with Mark Shred‘s razor like riff over the punky rasp of Polish lead vocalist Karina Sunqueen, who’s out on the town ‘being your fantasy, shots of whiskey and getting frisky’ — not a great rhyme to be sure but trust me, it works.
“Jossy” has the feel (ok, and the riff) of Guns N’ Roses‘ “Double Talkin’ Jive” whilst the heavier “My Thirst” showcases drummer Marcus Mack and the sloppy but sharp lead bends of Paul Widner. It’s all a glorious blast of icy cold fresh air and the world surely needs more.
My only problem with Stone Cold Outlaw‘s three song EP/single is that it’s all over far too soon Karina… but that’s the story of my life. Now where’s that whiskey?
