eff Scott Soto’s performance at The Gods 2002 was his debut UK show as a solo artist and judging by what I saw (on the DVD of the same name), he took the crowd by storm. That day – June 2, 2002 to be precisely – he shared the stage with such acts as Hardline, Harem Scarem, Honeymoon Suite, Eric Martin and Ten,
but was in no way inferior to them at all. On the contrary, Jeff is a performer in heart and soul and surely knows how to entice an audience. His setlist included tracks from Talisman, Eyes, Takara, Yngwie Malmsteen, Axel Rudi Pell as well as two tracks from his (then upcoming) “Prism” album and one from “Love Parade”. Joining JSS on stage were guitarist Howie Simon (Ken Tamplin), bass player Gary Schutt (Takara) and drummer Alex Papa. As a special guest, guitarist Pontus Norgren (Humanimal, Great King Rat) showed up for a splendid version of “Again 2 Be Found”. And what’s more, this live album ends with an excellent bonus studio track, called “Good Love”.
Conclusion: a brilliant live album, although I prefer the DVD version, not only because of the visual aspect, but also for a more than interesting interview in which Soto’s whole career is covered. The choice is yours
