Dirty Passion is a Swedish hard rock band that was formed in Malmo in 2006. Their music is the perfect combination of 80’s hard rock scene flavoured with some newer melodic hard rock elements. Their debut album, “Different Tomorrow” in 2010 was a damn fine piece of Swedish hard rock stuff with solid arrangements, well-crafted songs and some killer riffs.
After 8 months of writing and playing the new material live, most notably on the Dirty Passion/L.A. Guns European tour, the recording finally took place in July of 2012 and saw the band utilize four different studios including a return for the final mixing at the world-renowned “Roasting House Studios”. After extensive radio play, the critically acclaimed radio pre-single “When Darkness Falls” will also be included on the album as a special bonus track.
Nowadays, the band is back with a new shouter, Kriss Lohikoski Svensson, new bass player, an up-dated sound and stronger than ever to offer us another strong release. So, “In Wonderland” is titled Dirty Passion’s newest effort and is here to rock our world! The fact is that the band’s previous singer, Emil Ekbladh, had a strong voice and I was a bit dissapointed when I read that he left the band. So I was a bit curious of how the new vocalist should sound! But after the first listening of this new album, all of my doubts disappeared! The new member kicks some serious asses! His voice is rough and a bit sleazier and the whole band is tighter than ever and ready to make ‘some noise’ .
“Into The Wild” is the opening track and it’s a fast paced in-your-face rocker that takes no prisoners! Attitude, a big chorus and some screaming guitars all these in a solid song! “Dead End Street” is ok while “Lovers Lane” is the first highlight here! A more mid- tempo, darker tune with a catchy chorus line and an extremely melodic rhythm. “When Darkness Falls” is a typical Dirty Passion tune; mid-tempo rhythms with a big chorus, a clever hook and superb guitar work! Do you want more? “Sinner” rocks good and “Make It Last” is a huge 80’s influenced power-ballad!! It’s one of these type of tracks that you wanna hear again and again!! “Addicted“, “Daughter Of The Reaper” and “Light Of The Candle” are all very good ‘modern’ rockers with nice arrangements and memorable choruses. “Stay” is an acoustic mid-tempo-ballad with such a beautiful melody! So emotional with a perfect solo! For last, we have the heavier tune of “Shadowland” which closes the album perfectly!
Overall, this is another killer release for 2012! For sure, one of the biggest and pleasant surprises for this year. And although they’ve changed their line-up, they achieved to release a great album full of great songs, fantastic guitar work but, most of all, a disc that must to be played LOUD! Well done!!!
