On the heels of being named Gamma Ray’s new drummer, Michael Ehre (Firewind, Uli Jon Roth, Metallium) delivers his second Love.Might.Kill album 2 Big 2 Fail. Much like the debut album LMK blurs the lines between melodic hard rock and heavy/power metal. It might even be safe to say that 2 Big 2 Fail sounds more metal, if not simply heavier, across this album. Yet, LMK still efficiently blends in that hard rock groove in many songs: XTC, Restless Heart, and The Great Escape, by example. The speed of power metal takes hold Burn the Night and We Fall.
Then The One has a hard rock, even latent blues, undercurrent that may remind mid-period Whitesnake. LMK can also songs more akin to rock/metal anthems with Home and Too Big to Fail. Then things get a little spotty towards the end. You could largely skip the last three songs, and have a more complete and satisfying album. Nevertheless, 2 Big 2 Fail is certainly on par with Brace For Impact, and shows the band’s consistency.
