They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.

Five stars are just not enough for an album this quality. This is still my favorite album today. From The Cars late bass player & lead singer, every song on this album is excellent.
The strangest thing is that the songs probably hold more meaning now than they did then. From the starting song of Too Hot To Stop to When You’re Gone on the A side and from Spinning to This Time Around on the B side this album doesn’t miss a beat. This really is an extremely positive and lovely album from beginning to end.

This issue of the album has a couple of additions. A previously unissued song, Morocco Bound, debuts and it is a wonder that it was left off in the first place. Possibly it gave the impression of being a little too 60s-flavoured lyrically for the times.
Then there is an early cut of Rock’n’Roll Music at a more sedate tempo. Again the speed of the issued version was maybe influenced by the times, though it gave the whole album had an edge that set it apart from what the Americans were beginning to cal AOR. It’s definitely not punk rock but it is certain

an Stephenson (November 4, 1953 – April 8, 2001) was an American singer-songwriter. Stephenson wrote hits for Crystal Gayle, Kenny Rogers, Dan Seals, Janie Fricke, and John Anderson. Partnering with Dave Robbins, Stephenson wrote a string of hits for Restless Heart, and would continue to work with Robbins later in his career. He later became tenor vocalist in the country music band Blackhawk in the 1990s. Van died of Melanoma in 2001.
