Few heavy metal bands define the genre like America’s ICED EARTH. Fewer still elicit the rabid, off-the-charts fan loyalty that ICED EARTH does. Formed in 1985 by Jon Schaffer, a street-tough kid with the drive (and talent!) to create a band to make his heroes Judas Priest, KISS, and Iron Maiden proud, ICED EARTH released its riff-heavy self-titled debut album in 1990 – and never looked back.

Being raised by the church organist, my mother would have to be my biggest influence. Also growing up surrounded by highly talented friends was invaluable. Having the best radio station on the planet operating in ones high school didn’t hurt either (WMNR). My first “favorite” band was the J. Geils Band. My first concert was Queensryche’s Empire tour (Suicidal Tendencies opened). I haven’t met a genre of music I haven’t liked, but classical, progressive rock/metal, and jazz have worn out my turntable.
