Solstafir – Endless Twilight of Codependent Love 2020

SÓLSTAFIR have always been an extraordinary band. This is not only because of their mystical Icelandic homeland in whose language they mainly write their lyrics or because they have developed from a Black Metal band to a very variable (post) Rock band, it is much more because of the overall concept that SÓLSTAFIR presents with every release, always surprising and slightly different from the previous one. For many, the band has something magical about it – an aura that is difficult to describe – for this you have to listen to and understand their music. In the musical cosmos of SÓLSTAFIR, artists as different as the Beatles, Kraftwerk, Darkthrone, Ennio Morricone and Billy Corgan whirl around and seep unmistakably into the songwriting. The cover for the new album, “Endless Twilight o

Fates Warning – Long Day Good Night 2020

On November 6th Fates Warning will release their new album Long Day Good Night via Metal Blade Records. The new single “Scars” offers a first taste of the album. Fates Warning have been a constant authority on progressive metal for over 35 years. The band has had a significant influence on the style and has developed it further without compromising its integrity or losing its significance.

Now, in 2020, they present the most extensive, longest album of their eventful career in the form of Long Day Good Night. “Stylistically, the music we’ve written for it is different from the rest of our repertoire,” explains vocalist Ray Alder. “Some songs contain electronic elements, others feel pleasantly weightless, and some groove relatively straightforward even by our s

Vandamne – The First Crimes (1988 -1991) LOST UK JEWELS” Collector’s Series Vol.21 [2020]

-Born on the ashes of the UK Metal band DEALER, VANDAMNE was put together in 1987 to play a more melodic and “classy” style, in the vein of bands like Dokken, Ratt and Motley Crue. With two incredible guitar-talents like Ashley Jon Limer and Pete Southern and the great vocalist Trev Short on board, the band played up and down the UK for 2-3 years, chasing that ever-elusive deal.Unfortunately, after some changes in the line-up, the band called it a day around 1992.

-Two years later, the band’s manager was asked from Zero Records/Japan toreunite the band to record an album, which the band -at the end -did it.The album called “Nightcrimes” was released in 1994 on Zero Records and later (with a bonus-track) on the German lab

Sateria – Cold Beer…& A Hat Full Of Fun (LOST MELODIC JEWELS” Collector’s Series Vol.2) 2020

-Formed in ’87, Denmark’s SATERIAstood out amongst that country’s metal militia, as acts like M.Fate and Pretty Maids ruled the roost. Put togetherby vocalist Martie Peters(Push, MPG)and guitarist René Shades (nowPretty Maidsbass-player), they quickly conquered the Danish Hard-Rock scene, headlining many clubs in Copenhagen and opening for various big acts, from Little Angels to Europe, to critical acclaim.

-A distillation of acts like Poison, Motley Crue and White Lion, Sateria were heavily influenced by LA’s Sunset Strip, then home to the burgeoning Hair Metal scene that had taken hold of the eighties, turning it into a decade of decadence.

-Tentatively signing to Polygram, they cut an album that would never see th

Patty Smyth – It’s About Time (2020)

It took 28 years before Patty Smyth finally decided to release a third album (not counting the 2015 holiday album Come On December). The album collects 6 original songs and 2 covers: Bobby Gentry’s “Ode to Billie Joe” and Tom Waits’ “Downtown Train”. In fact it’s the second time she has recorded “Downtown Train” as it also was included on her debut solo album.
Only one thing about the album do I find disappointing: Regarding Patty Smyth I totally agree with the title, but if you enjoyed her 2 first releases I think you like me would have loved it to include more of her self penned material. 32 min. with this very talented artist is not enough.

King Diamond – The Best Of King Diamond (2003)

The King Diamond band was formed in 1985 by Danish vocalist King Diamond following the break-up of his previous band, Mercyful Fate. Almost all of the lyrics on King Diamond’s albums revolve around a specific story. Only the band’s debut, “Fatal Portrait”, and 1995’s “Spider’s Lullaby” stray from this formula, although, even in those cases, several of the songs on the albums feature lyrics that are related to each other.
The group saw their commercial success reach its peak in the mid and late 1980’s. With the King Diamond band, King traded the occult-based and blasphemous lyrics of Mercyful Fate for a gothic horror approach.
This compilation consists of tracks from the albums released 1986 – 1990.
