Paul Kantner And Marty Balin – Live At The Great American Music Hall, 2000 (2011)

This is a beautiful recording, and far better than one might expect from the 2000 performance date. Rather than reliving past glories from the 1960s, Paul Kantner and Marty Balin embrace that history and claim it for themselves as 60-somethings. The performances may not be as energetic as what the Airplane or the Jefferson Starship delivered in their heyday but Kantner and Balin make up in depth and feeling what time forces them to sacrifice in speed.
They get considerable help from Chris Smith on keyboards, Slick Aguilar on guitar, and, most important of all, Diana Mangano on vocals, the latter two hailed from the then-current lineup of the Jefferson Starship, and Mangano was Grace Slick’s successor in that band. She does well substituting for Slick’s (and Signe Anderson’s)

2021 Happy New Year!

2020 has been a special year, to say the least, with a pandemic that has had major consequences all over the world. Now the vaccination has started little by little here in wordwide, but it will probably take a long time before we return to a normal everyday life. Hopefully by the summer we can start living a little more as usual again.

Everything during this year has not only been about Covid-19 but a lot of good music has been released and it has certainly been like a light in the dark for many.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Sylent Sam – Take Me Home (1994)

This trio from Texas formed in 1992 delivers a solid, unknown high energy guitar Blues Hard Rock with soulful lyrics, that came out in 1994 on a tiny label (Midwest Records). The song that standout is the catchy, commercial “Bad Luck”, which has a wonderful AOR style chorus, while the whole album has tremendous guitar work and blasting solos but with weak production and some filler.

This band doesn’t go for the typical canned sound. No boundaries but definitely a rock and blues foundation to spring from. Randy’s singing style is smooth and delivers the lyrics in a warm style you can understand. If you liked the rock sounds of the sixties here’s a fresh batch. The album re-released under the title “Take Me Home”.
