Slik Toxik FIRST RE-RELEASE – NEW MASTERING – DETAILED BOOKLET – 3 BONUS TRACKS From Bad Reputation records.

Slik Toxik was formed in 1988 from Toronto hard rock band Portrait. Portrait consisted of the original members vocalist/guitarist Nick Walsh, drummer Kevin Harrison, guitarist Kevin Gale and bassist/lyricist Dave Mercel. Capitol Records (EMI) signed the band in 1991 and released an EP entitled “Smooth And Deadly”. This was followed by the full album Doin’ the Nasty in 1992. Both the EP and the full album were produced by Paul Gross and produced by Anthony Vanderburgh co-produced and recorded at Toronto’s world-class studio Phase One. They won the Juno Award for Hard Rock Album of the Year in 1993. The video for “White Lies/Black Truth” won People’s Choice Awards for Best Video of the Year and “Helluvatime ” won Best Metal Video at the 1992 MuchMusic Video Awards. In the early ’90s, the hard rock/metal world was in a bit of a turmoil. The landscape was changing, and so were bands like Warrant, Poison, and Skid Row, all of which once sold out arenas and amphitheaters, now played to half-filled venues and, in some cases, half-full clubs. It was also a bad time for new bands in the genre that just hit the market. While that was true, it in no way meant these bands weren’t good. In fact, bands like Tora Tora, War Babies and Babylon AD did their job just as well, if not better than many of their peers. Of those bands, one stood out from the rest with their debut album and really blew us away. That band was Slik Toxik and the album was called Doin the Nasty.
More than 20 years later, Doin’ the Nasty is an album that’s still pretty damn fun to listen to. The production is spot on, the band plays absolutely amazing, and the songs are so well thought out, well written and executed to perfection. Slik Toxik is a band that may never have risen above the horizon to make themselves known, but Doin’ the Nasty is a reminder that some of the best albums ever made are the ones you never even knew were that they exist.”
