Classic Albums: Pink Floyd – Making Of The Dark Side Of The Moon 2003, DVD

This is a story told from the inside by the creators of a masterpiece. The Dark Side Of The Moon is the album that dramatically transformed Pink Floyd from darlings of the art house scene to global stadium superstars.

Until 1973, Pink Floyd maintained a relentless touring schedule, and when they approached recording a new album, they already had the foundation for what was to be called The Dark Side Of The Moon. It was the first album where Roger Waters was the author of all the lyrics, as well as the basic “concept”. With the timeless qualities of production and musicianship, coupled with the hypnotic impact of its central themes – coldness, paranoia, madness, war and death – The Dark Side Of The Moon was destined to become the dominant album of the 70s and 80s (with a record number of consecutive weeks on the charts). Thirty years later, it still resonates with a new generation of music lovers.

Track by track, this film follows the making of the 1973 album. All four members of the band, at the time Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, are doing exclusive interviews. Roger, David and Richard play songs and showcase themes from the album. Alan Parsons (Recording Engineer) introduces multitrack tapes, providing a unique glimpse into the musical fabric of the recording, all illustrated with archival footage.

The Dark Side Of The Moon, combined with great songs, inventive effects and one of the most recognizable cover art ever created, etched itself into the mass subconscious and became a landmark in Rock history, a truly Classic Album.
