For the band Whiskey Myers, 2019’s self-titled and self-produced album was a turning point. Now, after spending 21 days in isolation at the 2,300-acre Sonic Ranch Studio deep in the heart of their Texas home, just a few miles from the US-Mexico border, the Gold-certified Renegades have focused on what they do can best.
With ‘Tornillo,’ named after the border town, set to be released on July 29th through their own label, Wiggy Thump Records, the six-piece band have used their solid foundations of more than a decade to explore new soundscapes. “Tornillo” as a whole draws as much inspiration from Nirvana as it does Waylon Jennings – and you can even hear the gospel influence of the legendary McCrary Sisters on backing vocals. Contributing to the album alongside Cannon, who is in charge of the songwriting, is lead guitarist John Jeffers and his bandmates Jamey Gleaves and Tony Kent, as well as up-and-coming singer/songwriter Aaron Raitiere.
