Ruphus were among the best known and most enduring Norwegian bands of the seventies, even though their line-up changed several times. The band formed in 1970 with Asle Nilsen (bass) and Hans Petter Danielsen (guitar). The musicians had no serious intentions and played for their own pleasure.
However, two years later, the team, which by that time consisted of seven musicians, signed a contract with Polydor. The debut album was a heavy progressive rock, supported by female (Gudny Aspaas) and male vocals (Rune Sundby). If we draw analogies with European leaders, then the band’s music strongly resembled Uriah Heep, Genesis, Yes. The team existed until the early 80s and recorded six albums, refocusing on jazz-rock in their later releases.
