Demon Doll Records has teamed up with early ’90s bad boys LEGEND to reissue their rocking debut album “Sex And Violence”, a polished slice of US melodic hard rock with that classic early Nineties sound production style. All songs have been digitally remastered and this reissue comes packaged in an 8-page booklet with a full set of lyrics to the original album tracks. This reissue is officially licensed from the band, including 8 previously unreleased tracks from the 2nd album that never was.
Despite the controversial album title, in fact it refers to the good (Sex) & the bad (Violence), and not mixed together.
Musically, this early ’90s US melodic hard rock with that bluesy foundation and polished production from the era. In 1991, bands in this style struggled to get a recording contract, so Legend released “Sex And Violence” via a small label.
Kerrang’s Magazine 1991 review speak for itself:
“Hailing from the Boston area, Legend are building up a cult following in that neck of the woods with a sound that takes its cue from late ’80s Queensryche, as well as the sleazier climates from the worlds of Guns N’ Roses, Bang Tango and Sweet F.A.
The musicianship is strong, the songs are vivid and there’s plenty of energy flying around… when Legend are good they’re almost excellent Fronted by possible future star in vocalist Tyler Kaye, Legend are a quite exciting prospect…”
Opening cut “Electric Romeo” is a minor classic with a nasty attitude and the urge to f**k ’til dawn, thanks to some terrific bottom end from bassist Brian Thomas and drummer Mick Silver paired to some nasty guitar riffs from Ash Lee Pederson.
“Walk Away”, “Middle Of Night” and “Bottom Of the Deck” are three more terrific tastes of Legend’s songwriting talents, with “Pullout” being another highlight that features some hysterical but well thought out lyrics combined to a Glam vibe that reminds me of St. Jaimz.
Quite unknown band by many and a good one, Legend was a band which had many influences, but managed to create a quite distinct sound. Also included in this remastered reissue we find 8 tracks from Legend’s second album that never was, very well professionally recorded pre-production demo songs.
