Without a doubt STYX remains a one of the greatest Pomp-rock band of all time, mixing progressive rock, AOR, hard rock, art-rock and more, with songs ranging from complex arrangements to radio-friendly melodies. Then it isn’t strange that a tribute to the music of Styx results absolutely deserved.
In this case Deadline / Cleopatra Records released ”A TRIBUTE TO STYX”, comprising cover versions of the band’s defining moments including “Come Sail Away,” “Babe,” “Lady,” “Mr. Roboto” and many more, performed by musicians from the melodic hard rock scene.
The band includes members / collaborators from Bullet Boys, Shameless, Warrant, Bang Tango, while lead vocals are performed by the likes of Kelly Hansen (Foreigner), Phil Lewis (L.A. Guns), Marq Torien (Bullet Boys), Stevie Rachelle (Tuff), Chas West (Bonham), Jizzy Pearl (Love/Hate), and more.
Some versions are quite faithful to the originals, others updated with a rocking edge. Very cool stuff.
