Irish-born vocalist Danny Hynes may be most known as the voice of NWOBHM-legends Weapon (now called Weapon UK) or the musical director of the hangover club’s brilliant party band Paddy Goes To Holyhead – including Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep), The Troy brothers (Praying Mantis), Dave Murray (Iron Maiden), Brian Robertson, Eric Bell & Darren Wharton (Thin Lizzy), and the list goes on.
As the pandemic hit and all Weapon UK gigs were cancelled, Danny decided to get together with his new songwriting partner, talented Swede Robert Majd (bass player in Captain Black Beard, Metalite, Nighthawk) and work on his very first solo album.
With eight original tracks ready to go, along with a choice cover songs, the DANNY HYNES BAND released its debut album titled “Fancy That?” a couple years ago, but on physical CD only and limited run. Now 2024 Danny is releasing the album digitally, available world-wide.
For “Fancy That?”, Hynes & Majd put together a brilliant band to record it all, mostly live in the studio. Joining Danny (lead vocals) & Majd (rhythm guitar) were Richard Hamilton (Houston) on keyboards, Håkan Granat (Misth) on lead guitar, Magnus Ulfstedt (Hammer) on bass, Andreas Westerlund (Weapon UK) on drums, Erica Ohlsson (Metalite) and Åsa Lundman (Wallmans) on backing vocals.
The mixing was done by Jimmy Jay (H.E.A.T) who also provided some keys, and recordings took place at Wing Studios masterfully engineered by Sverker Widgren. The result is a fun, hard driving and soulful classic rock album!
In this classic rock type of songs, Danny Hynes’ voice has something that channels Phil Lynott, while the arrangements and the band play with swagger and attitude. That’s all about bouncing riffs, barroom pianos, some classy organ, shaking drumming / percussion – all fun classic stuff.
