British hard rock legends URIAH HEEP are one of the “big four” rock bands, along with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, and certainly one of the most intriguing bands both musically and lyrically, to emerge from heavy rock.
This extensive and ambitious super deluxe box set “50 Years In Rock” celebrates Uriah Heep’s remarkable career and was created with the full collaboration of Uriah Heep themselves and curated by founding members Mick Box, Ken Hensley, Paul Newton and Lee Kerslake.
The beautifully presented box set contains Uriah Heep’s all studio albums (some CD’s include 2 albums), plus 4 discs compiled by the original members selecting their favorite songs. This set also includes “The Magician’s Birthday” on vinyl LP.
Evoking an era when prog, hard rock and heavy metal co-existed in an era of glorious, boundary-breaking music, the box set traces the evolution of Uriah Heep from inexperienced studio musicians with everything to prove to bonafide limo inhabiting rock stars.
The ’50 Years In Rock’ box set is out of print now, with remaining copies being sold at ridiculous price.
Known for a heavy, keyboard and organ-driven sound and the powerful vocals of singers like the late David Byron, Uriah Heep have maintained a consistent fan base across Europe and Asia. Demons and Wizards, The Magician’s Birthday, Live and Sweet Freedom (1973) all earned gold records from the Recording Industry Association of America, while Live, Sweet Freedom, Wonderworld (1974) and Return To Fantasy (1975) were certified silver by the British Phonograph Industry.
A number of notable British musicians have found their way into the group’s line-up and are featured on ”50 Years In Rock”, including bassists John Wetton (Asia), Trevor Bolder (David Bowie) and Bob Daisley (rejoining Kerslake after he departed Ozzy Osbourne’s original solo band, which Daisley continued to contribute to for the rest of the decade) and future AC/DC drummer Chris Slade.
“50 Years In Rock” is an exciting opportunity to at last recognise the band by celebrating their entire career in one box.
While some albums are packed as 2-albums-1-CD that’s ok, it was done to save space. We are no including here the 4 CD’s compiled by the band members Ken Hensley, Mick Box, Lee Kerslake and Paul Newton with their favourite UH tracks. Each of these CDs contains tracks which are already included in the box, and are not necessary.
Most of the albums have been remastered, while the newer from the last two decades are presented in its original mastering.
After selling over 40 million albums worldwide, over the years Uriah Heep have influenced many different metal bands around the globe, among the most popular being Dio. Bands including A-ha, King Diamond, Krokus, Demons & Wizards, Fifth Angel and Axel Rudi Pell have all cited Uriah Heep as a band of personal influence, while W.A.S.P, Tesla and Blackmore’s Night have all covered the band’s songs.
Uriah Heep continue to tour until this day with founding member Mick Box carrying the torch if this inextinguishable monster band.
