THIN LIZZY – BBC Radio One Live In Concert [Reading Festival 1983 Phil’s last UK show]

We never have enough THIN LIZZY and here’s “BBC Radio One Live In Concert“, the final Phil Lynott show in UK under the Lizzy banner. This show at the now legendary Reading Festival in 1983 came at the end of their farewell tour, and was originally intended to be the band’s last concert.

Although they officially split up in 1983, Thin Lizzy played several more concerts after this recording, including the Monsters of Rock festival in Germany a week later.
Here we find THIN LIZZY at their most rocking era, with immortal John Sykes on guitar alongside talented Scott Gorham, and furure DARE founder Darren Wharton on keyboards. “BBC Radio One Live In Concert” is an official release, including all the classics like Thunder And Lightning, Jailbreak, The Boys Are Back In Town, etc, plus the previously unreleased track A Night in the Life of a Blues Singer.

If you’re the kind of person that likes your live albums with an extra sense of occasion, then this is the Thin Lizzy concert for you. Recorded August 28th, 1983, at the Reading Festival, this show marked the final UK performance by Phil Lynott and company, and while essentially interchangeable with the more extensive (and studio-perfected) ‘Life/Live’ double set of the same year, it makes for a more authentic Lizzy live experience.
Of interest, the exquisite non-album ballad “A Night in the Life of a Blues Singer” offers a collector’s value here, but the remaining wealth of material is worthy of this great band’s legacy. “BBC Radio One Live In Concert” is out of print now.
