Tokyo – One World (2014)

FrontSomehow this has initialed. Some time ago, all three albums the Frankfurt Rocker TOKYO yes were re-released. Then also some new songs or at least which were recent. Since 2013 TOKYO are also original members on stage (except for the late lamented drummer Fritz Matzka, it is replaced by Aaron Thier). But TOKYO still consist of Klaus Luley (CRAAFT, guitars, vocals), Ken Taylor (bass, vocals), Lothar Krell (keyboards, vocals) and Robby Musenbichler (guitars, vocals).

Anyone who has studied the re-releases, or at least our reviews to will not be particularly surprised by the quite modern orientation of the material on One World”. With hits the mark “Tokyohas here nothing more to do. Not that that would be bad, there is only eternal yesterday all the same take the wind out of the sails. Admittedly, the immersion was not easy in One World”. But after a few runs this magic has once again unfolds, it already existed in the early eighties at least for some songs.

The opening track, One World” is almost a security number dar. fairly simple and catchy for the ratios of TOKYO knitted, the song is almost entirely related to a topic. Incidentally, he comes from bassist Ken Taylor. Nevertheless, a successful start, because the melody does not want out of your head. If you like it a bit more complex – if you please: Track number 2 features intricate arrangements, hard riffs and low-slung guitars. Funky bass lines and an urgent text round Stand Up” from. I’m Free” runs back inside a little straighter and is also very relaxed. Something racy sounds If We Do not Believe“, here is again rocked modern. Soon” could pass as a kind of modern West Coast song.
After the ballad “It’s Spring Time Again” comes with a “Sea Of Joyprobably the most classic TOKYO song on this album. Fall Into Sleep” is another lighter number, the crash of “Do You Feel The Thunder” can safely be described as the hardest song in the band’s history. However, the spark jumps here not quite over too big is the gap between progressive elements and the sugar-sweet melodies of the chorus. After the quiet “Children Of Darkness” and the somewhat strenuous “Desert Life”
One World” TOKYO presented in a contemporary musical context, and the songwriting has changed. Sure, after 31 years since the last recorded music San” passed. That TOKYO but still are good for surprising moments, and in particular show the title track, “Sea Of Joy” or “I’m Free”. These songs can confidently call as Anspieltipps, but to gain an insight into the whole range of different elements, should the album already buy you a complete run. But the curious may not be deterred by modern sound itself.
