SAME SAME – Ready To Go (1991)

Via one song at Youtube I was tipped off by this album a while back, and here you’ll get the full album reviewed. SAME SAME was a 2-piece consisting of (or centred around) siblings GERTY SEDLMAYR (lead vocals) and OTTO SEDLMAYR (keys, production) from Austria. Any fan of soft AOR will be eager to hear this gem, since it is among the best “new/unknown” albums I’ve come across over the past few years. There are even some westcoast vibes in a few songs.

The mix of soft AOR and some westcoast vibes are clear in “Why did you quit”. There is also the very soft and dreamlike ballad “For a friend” with lots of feeling; this is the duet with Gerty and Klaus Bachmayer. Pure top notch female fronted AOR is heard in the awesome “Breakin’ up” (you can find it on YouTube), and more westcoast and almost slightly jazzy vibes are heard in the final song “Just another day”. Talking soft songs; the AOR ballad “Stronger than before” is really good and could have been done by BERLIN or QUEEN OF SPADES. Those two bands are actually quite good comparisons to this CD, even though there are moments when the sound of SAME SAME is slightly “heavier”.
