Dreamcatcher – Soul Design 2012

NOW!

Power metal would not exist if it wasn’t for the beautiful touch of the keyboard and a band who definitely embraces this instrument into their line-up are the amazing Leeds based symphonic power metal band Dreamcatcher. Concentrating their sound around computer generated noises, these power metal prodigies have released one of the finest debut power metal albums, and the best bit is that they are British. Dreamcatcher are flying the flag nice and high for British heavy metal, and their astounding debut album Soul Design is a must have in any power metal fanatics collection. Let loose the high pitched vocals, release the shredding guitar lines and last but no means least…… CRANK UP THE KEYBOARDS!

In a day and age where power metal has gone down the path of incredibly fast guitar solos, and keyboard solos have been made back bencher. Soul Design is something new, something fresh, something that all power metal bands should inspire to write. It’s the electronic element in tracks like ‘The Eyes of One’, ‘Take Hold’ and ‘Never Look Back’ that actually makes this album even heavier. It complements the pounding guitar riffs and the whaling vocals, while powering through a very tuneful and catchy melody. It’s crazy, as it kind of mixes aspects of rave music with metal and it’s this that makes this album brilliant.

Dreamcatcher’s front man, Lukas Jackson, has one hell of a set of pipes and has the ability to blow your speakers out the moment his magical voice kicks in. He is quite clearly one of the best, if not the best singer to emerge from the British heavy metal scene in the past 10 years and you can clearly hear him putting his: Heart, soul and power metal spirit, into songs like ‘Balance’ and ‘My Sin’, proving that he is the 21st century’s equivalent of the mighty Bruce Dickinson.

You have to have a catchy chorus line to call yourself a “real” power metal band and there isn’t one moment on Soul Design that won’t have you singing along like a drunken oaf to it. It’s not just the chorus’s that are memorable on this album, oh no, Dreamcatcher have made it so that you can sing along to every part of each song. Whether it is the chorus of ‘In the Depths of a Dream’ to the powerful verses of ‘Never Look Back’, you will know each and every word to this album. Each song on Soul Design has been written in mind for a live audience, and you can tell that this album will bring the roof down when played live!

This is a brilliant debut from one of the UK’s hottest new traditional metal bands, and if you ever thought that the metal scene was being dominated by scene kid, screamo rubbish, then go out and buy Dreamcatcher’s new album, Soul Design, and blast it out through your speakers at 11, so all the world can hear it’s heavenly goodness.
