Evolution was the first new release from Mason Ruffner in 7 years. Most notable on the album his his own version of the song “Angel Love” which Ruffner co-wrote with Mark Avsec and Alan Greene. A more known version of “Angel Love” has been performed by Carlos Santana, with whom Ruffner has made a number of live appearances.
From an interview with Santana, he quotes, “Angel Love” is mainly a Santana song-even though it’s written by my great friend Mason Ruffner. He’s from New Orleans and I think he gives it that real New Orleans feel. It’s got the great jukebox feeling of real American roots rock. It’s a perfect jukebox single.”
Many consider Evolution to be Ruffners finest studio recording. Originally it was only released in Europe (NL) by Provogue including 12 tracks. This US reissue does not include the last 2 tracks from the European release: tracks 11 “Warriors Bliss (Instrumental)” and 12 “Farewell”. The European version of the album (192 kbps) is included in the discography here.
