Lazarus Dream with their second album “Lifeline” in 2022. The duo consisting of singer Carsten “Lizard” Schulz (Domain, Evidence One, Devoid) and guitarist Markus Pfeffer (Barnabas Sky, Winterland) inspires with melodic hard rock pearls with groovy riffs, bombastic choirs and catchy melodies.
The album starts brilliantly with the six-minute epic “Dead End Symphony”, for which none other than Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Black Country Communion, Sons Of Apollo, Billy Idol etc.) contributes Hammond, Moog and synth arrangements. The The diverse influences of the duo are impressively visible, with Pfeffer building in conscious reminiscences to his musical origins (esp. Dokken, Winger, Tyketto, Queensryche). The pounding, rolling bass lines and the subtly modern arpeggiator-synth sounds are also characteristic of the band’s sound, which the multi-instrumentalist works out in his studio with great attention to detail. Above all, Carsten Lizard Schulz sets accents with his unmistakably distinctive voice and the bombastic choir arrangements, for which he has been valued in the scene for some time. Drummer Markus Kullmann (Sinner, Glenn Hughes, Voodoo Circle) and the two percussionists Andy Lübbert and Thomas Rieder can be heard as guest musicians. Devoid/heart line keyboardist Jorris Guilbaud contributes synths and Hammond for the uptempo track “Overdose Of Paradise”. Keyboarder Thomas Nitschke is on the tracks “Freedoom” and “Your Voice Inside My Head”. The CD contains the song “Surrounded By Strangers” as bonus tracks as well as a cover of the 80s classic “I Engineer” (in the original from animation).
