Marco Ferreira is a Brazilian born musician and has released various of albums as solo and with French progressive metal band Venturia and Goodbye Thrill (they have a new album out aswell called Outrageous). On Better Run Marco has put together a band with his brother Alex on drums, long time friend Gus Monsanto (Revolution Renaissance, Adagio, Takara) on bass and vocals on one track and a Patrick Sebastian from Finland on guitars. On Better Run they deliver melodic rock with a tougher attitude and bands such as Takara, Goodbye Thrill and some Nelson and Harem Scarem influences comes to mind.
The melodies are there even if they use little keyboards and I think that’s a shame. Some of the song on Better Run has been on the earlier albums with Ferreira but they sound better on this release mainly because the production is a lot better. Set My Devils Free is a great rocker in the Harem Scarem land. Knocking On My Door is a good mid-tempo songs with a Nelson touch over it and the harmonies are damn good on this one. There’s couple of fillers like Rule In Self-defence, Rescue Me and Trust The Enemy on the album that takes away the wholeness of the album. This ain´t as good as the mentioned bands but there´s really nice moments and the albums from Marco Ferreira gets better and better for every release. But the artwork is really awful and they should have done a better one so don’t get fooled by the cover.
