Scarlet: The Old Waldorf was recorded in August 1979. The band were trying out material that they would record a few months later at the Automatt sessions with Sandy Pearlman for their official second album, Shakin’ Street. They were opening for the Jim Carroll Band and the show was captured by KALX radio deejay and producer Terry Hammer. The lineup of Shakin’ Street that recorded this live album was Fabienne Shine with and Ross “The Boss” Friedman on lead guitar, Eric Lévi on rhythm guitar, Mick Winter on bass and Jean-Lou Kalinowsky on drums. Ross “The Boss” Friedman, a founding member of the Dictators, and later, Manowar had replaced the original lead guitarist.
Shakin’ Street’s high-energy set featured four songs from their debut, seven songs from their then-upcoming second album (all by Shine and Lévi), and two songs that aren’t documented on any officially sanctioned release: the original Scarlet and a cover of The Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog.
In 1980, Shakin’ Street embarked on “The Black and Blue Tour” as openers for the Ronnie James Dio lineup of Black Sabbath, alongside Blue Öyster Cult.
Latest from a 2024 interview with Fabienne Shine “I’m back in the studio with Shakin’ Street recording a new album. We are recording a song which Sandy wrote for me. I am flying from my home in California to Queens, NY, to work on the record with Ross “The Boss.”“
