Orleans – Dancin’ In St. Thomas Moonlight (Live) (2010) (Reissue 2020)

On Friday February 26th, 2010, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands Orleans performed at the Reichold Center for the Performing Arts. The show was captured simply on one HD camera and a hard disc recorder by intrepid Production Manager and Front of House mixer, Michael Malfesi — no fixes, no overdubs, no remixes!

The show featured David “Doc” “DR” Robinson on Dancin’ In The Moonlight. Sherman Kelly had written the song following a trip to St. Thomas while he, Larry Hoppen and Doc Robinson was in the band Boffalongo. When Doc Robinson left the band he, Sherman and several other Ithaca types migrated to France, where they produced one album under the name of King Harvest. The history of rock’n’roll is also a history of misunderstandings. One of these misinterpretations concerns the word sex (immortalized in the most famous of all phrases). I am firmly convinced that in rock’n’roll the main attraction and attractiveness is not the idea of the vulgar union of copulating bodies, but rather the sensual charisma of the art and its performers.

In my opinion, one argument that is often deliberately misused in this context is the exuberant masculinity. On closer inspection, however, musclemen are rather the exception.
