Eagle Rock is releasing today a DVD+2CD package of ”Live in Munich 1977”, featuring RAINBOW’s “Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll” line-up of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, vocalist Ronnie James Dio, drummer Cozy Powell, bassist Bob Daisley and David Stone on keyboards.
Ritchie Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig. The band hit the stage at close to midnight, with a massive 28 foot high, 40 foot wide electric rainbow which produced a multi-colored lighting effect from the 3000 light bulbs.

The story of Epitaph begins in the winter of 1969/70 in the most popular music club in Dortmund at the time, “Fantasio”, in whose basement the Brit Cliff Jackson (vocals, guitar), his compatriot James McGillivray (drums) and bassist Bernd Kolbe practiced and worked on their program while they performed weekly in the Fantasio alongside greats such as Black Sabbath, Rory Gallagher, Yes and Argent.

Tak Matsumoto is one of the most famous Rock guitar virtuosos in Japan. He was leader of a popular band called B’z that sold nearly 60 million albums in Japan. He became so popular Gibson guitars made him their first Asian signature guitar player.
During several years Matsumoto planned to create a band in a U.S. hard rock style, melodic, with a classic ’80s sound & feel but also adding a special ‘Asian touch’. For that matter, he was looking an American singer – enter Mr. Big’s Eric Martin, a vocalist / musician hugely popular in Japan.
