American Tears was a New York-based aor/hard rock band of the 1970s. Its leader was keyboardist/vocalist Mark Mangold, formerly from Progressive Rock outfit Valhalla. The band’s initial lineup included bassist Gary Sonny and drummer Tommy Gunn. This lineup made American Tears’ debut album, Branded Bad in 1974. In 1975, Sonny was replaced by Greg Baze, which recorded their sophomore effort, Tear Gas. Failing to find an audience, Mangold reorganized, emerging with a new lineup featuring guitarist Evan Brooks, and a rhythm section of Kirk Power

While the debut probably gets the edge as far as craftier melodies goes (not that this is lacking mind you), “Ambition” gets a slight nod as being more of what a progressive rock fan might want to hear. Every song is a gem in this collection, mixing poppy hooks, hard rock and intelligent proggy rock.

This is a superb remaster by Rock Candy. The reissue respects the original album cover featuring a band pic, in UK it was replaced by a jet with eagle wings, much better in my opinion (seen above).
A must have album for Pomp Rock fans and a classic for the genre.
