Ed Motta ?– Perpetual Gateways 2016

I have been checking Ed’s work since the early 2000s and its taken a while but he has produce a release that really lives up to his potential. Perpetual Gateways is a solid, very coherent, in the pocket english language work from EM. Perhaps his best to date – top shelf production, great writing/compositions, stellar vocals, and generously supported by key session players like Patrice Rushen, Cecil McBee, and Hubert Laws .

Ed Motta – AOR (English Version) 2015

AOR is an album that not just presents a modern-day love letter to this music but does the virtual impossible and actually presents songs that could easily have fit in Aja (minus the lyrics). Should we be surprised that a musician genius like Motta is the guy who actually can competently create such complex music? Yes, Steely Dan is being imitated by talents like Daft Punk and Mayer Hawthorne, but AOR is truly a full absorption of the west coast sound. And oh so very well.
