
On July 13, 1985, an international charity music festival was organized by two British leaders of the Boomtown Rats – Bob Geldof and Ultravox – Midge Ure to raise funds to help victims of the terrible famine of 1984-85 years in the African republics: Ethiopia, Sudan, Chad … The main venues are: Old Wembley Stadium in London (UK) 82,000 spectators and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia (USA) about 100,000 spectators.
On this day, similar concerts were held in Australia, Japan, Germany. To cover the event, one of the most significant satellite TV broadcasts in history was organized: about 1.9 billion people in more than 150 countries watched the event live.
