S&M is the ninth album by the metal band Metallica, recorded in 1999. The album is a recording of the band’s live performance with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. The name “S&M” means “Symphony and Metallica”, but some fans of the group believe that the name of the album is associated with the song of the same name (S&M – Sado & Mazo) by the group Thin Lizzy, whose work greatly influenced the group. The band played songs from all albums from Ride the Lightning to ReLoad, as well as two new songs – “Human” and “No Leaf Clover” and the song “The Ecstasy of Gold” – a cover version of Ennio Morricone.
