Poco is a Southern California country rock band originally formed by Richie Furay, Jim Messina and Rusty Young. Formed following the demise of Buffalo Springfield in 1968,[1] Poco was part of the first wave of the West Coast country rock genre. The title of their first album, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, is a reference to the break-up of Buffalo Springfield.[citation needed] Throughout the years Poco has performed in various groupings, and is still active.

John Kay & Steppenwolf live at My Father’s Place, Roslyn on 16th February 1980.Having kept a low profile in the late 70s, in 1980 a reinvigorated John Kay formed a new band and resumed performing under the legendary Steppenwolf name.

This superb set, performed at My Father’s Place, Roslyn, NY on 16th February 1980, was broadcast on WLIR 92.7 FM and captures the quintet tearing through a selection of the band’s best known material, as well as some lesser-known gems and is presented here together with background notes and images.
