SELVA is a conceptual album in Portuguese from the Toten Band of Goiás, where it tells the story of a warrior character who needs his totem to overcome and face the cycles of life: from birth, from responsibilities in the family, from transformation into a warrior, from facing society and its standards and even rising beyond death.
History is not limited to the jungle environment but rather to the wild environment through which we are all conditioned, that we are usually lost and forget to cling to our totem. In this context there are no concepts of “Good” or “Evil” but of observation, of criticism and self-criticism, of the need to overcome their fears and uncertainties, made of unique and particular moments, as well as the inherent spirituality of each being.
At the end of the album there is a bonus track, re-recorded version of Toten’s Zombie Society, with current training. In the bands Jardim Secreto e Zombie Society we have the participation of Patrícia Lima.
The Toten Band has Heavy Metal and Progressive influences and in this album these influences are more evident, but the band does not only relate to these styles, and can be observed several others along the tracks.
The band Toten was born in the city of Goiânia, in the center of the country, a region known as a sertaneja reference. But who knows the city well knows that this is not the only style present. Apart from this model, it pulsates with great force, in pubs and traditional bars of the good Rock. Rock this in several formats. It was in this environment that the band Toten de Goiás decided to release their first single “The Magician”, which can be heard on their website. In 2015, the band released their second single: “Zombie Society”.
