The Rolling Stones – The Stones In The Park (1969) [2011, Blu-ray]

The Rolling Stones’ performance at London’s Hyde Park took place on July 5, 1969, two days after the death of Brian Jones, one of the band’s founders, who drowned in a swimming pool in the courtyard of his Sussex home, which formerly belonged to writer Alan Alexander Milne.

шt was a massive concert with over 250,000 spectators, featuring King Crimson, Family, Battered Ornaments, Third Ear Band, Alexis Korner’s New Church, Screw and Roy Harper alongside the Rollings. The Rolling Stones had been slated for a few weeks earlier to introduce their new guitarist, Mick Taylor, to the public. But in connection with the death of Brian, the concert was dedicated to his memory. Before the performance, Jagger read an excerpt from the poem “Adonais” by Percy Shelley, written on the death of Shelley’s friend John Keats and released several thousand white butterflies as a symbol of the liberation of the freedom-loving spirit of the late Brian. The concert began with one of the deceased’s favorite songs, “I’m Yours And I’m Hers” by Johnny Winter.
