Overdrive – On Wizard Ridge 2005 /On the run , Demos & Rarities 2019

The Lincolnshire act Overdrive were formed as way back as May 1977. In 1980 they released their own slice of legendary N.W.O.B.H.M. vinyl (on the Boring Grantham label), featuring the tracks “On the Run”, “Nightmare” and “Stonehenge”.

This single was made in only 500 copies and were sold-out almost immediately. In the book “The N.W.O.B.H.M. Encyclopedia” (I.P. Publishing) expert Malc Macmillan raved about the single: “The muscial contents elicit some reasonable strong comparisons with cult heroes Witchfinder General or the West Midlands version of Scarab, particularly on ‚Stonehenge’ and the atmospheric ‚Nightmare’, with Steve Farmer delivering his best Ozzy Ozbourne impersonation in places.” The band were troubled by more line up changes and the band gave up in 1982 but however reunited in 1988 and recorded a full lenght album in 1989 that were released, just as the single, on their own Boring Grantham label. “Dishonest Words” received little feedback from both, press and fans. Now finally we can hear more about this great band. High Roller records has released a lp called “Three Corners to Nowhere” and O.N.R has released this cd called “On Wizard Ridge”, containing 11 bona fide N.W.O.B.H.M. pieces like “Nuclear Bomb”, “Rules of the Inn” or “Once in a Dream”. The cd also features the tracks of the mega rare “On the Run” single.
