NICKELBACK are back with the amps red-lined and the arena doors kicked wide open. “Everything Under The Sun” drags the band’s biggest weapons into one record — filthy riffs, stadium hooks, bruised ballads and that unmistakable Chad Kroeger rasp built to punch through a wall of guitars.
This is the band’s eleventh studio album and their first since “Get Rollin’”, but there is very little dust on the machinery. If anything, NICKELBACK sound like they have rediscovered the pleasure of simply hitting hard. “Rattle The Cage”, featuring John 5, comes out swinging with a riff that feels like somebody dropped a transmission block onto the studio floor, while Kroeger sounds completely at home barking over it.
But “Everything Under The Sun” is not twelve variations on the same arena-rock grenade. “Leave Me Behind” and “Make Me Love You” expose the more reflective side of the band, letting the guitars breathe and giving Kroeger room to lean into the emotional weight rather than simply bulldozing through it.
“I Already Know” is pure NICKELBACK craftsmanship: immediate hook, thick guitars and a chorus seemingly engineered to survive fifteen thousand people yelling it back at the stage. “Chasin’ Famous” throws another crooked grin at celebrity culture, while “Simple Song” strips the message down to something more direct and human.
Then things get weird.
“Technicolor Steamboat” takes a sharp turn away from the expected highway, with Ryan Reynolds introducing one of the album’s strangest detours, while “Lift Somebody Up” brings in an absurdly stacked guest cast. It is exactly the sort of move a band can make when it no longer has anything left to prove.
That is probably the most entertaining thing about “Everything Under The Sun”: NICKELBACK are no longer trying to win an argument. They survived the punchlines, sold millions while people were busy pretending nobody listened to them, and came out the other side as one of the last truly gigantic rock bands still capable of filling arenas across continents.
So there is no apology here, no attempt to become fashionable and no desperate reinvention. Just thick guitars, choruses big enough to require planning permission and enough swagger to remind everyone why this band became enormous in the first place.
