A worthy attempt to flirt with AOR by Johnny and his squad, but as expected it went nowhere and since this album there’s been only seven albums in the last 32 years. Even if Southside Johnny isn’t your cup of tea, this is still worth investigating if you’re partial to AOR of the ultra-commercial variety that was so prevalent in 1984.

There are certain artists who’ve never tickled my fancy, no matter how hard I try, including such disparate artists as Rush, Dokken, The Rolling Stones or even Peter Gabriel era Genesis. On a far lesser scale is Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes. Their barroom style of New Jersey/Springsteen influenced rock and roll has always left me cold and uninterested.

A very interesting album mixing AOR, melodic, neoclassical, progressive hard rock and even some typical US power/prog metal elements. The band recorded this album in the early 90’s but it was never released for unknown reasons.

Risen from the ashes of a funk band (called Kiwi!), Swedish AORsters Fatal Attraction got signed by High Rock Records at the end of 1995 and released their first album, “End Of Regulation Time”, in September 1996. Although this album put them on the Swedish AOR map, nothing was heard from them anymore, until the 4-track EP “Unknown World” was released (again by High Rock Records) in 2001. Back then it was given a rave review by yours truly and I have been waiting for this “Simplicity Rules” ever since.
